RELIGIOUS DANCE

The origin of religious dancing is ancient. However strange and surprising the title sounds, it is quite true that at one time dance was an inseparable part of the religious fervor, and an expression of the inner feelings of the worshippers. Dance apart from God is exercise, but done by redeemed believers it is an act of love, praise and worship. It is of interest to note that dance never occurred alone, but was always accompanied with song, clapping of hands, and musical instruments. As with music, so too the dance expressed a person's internal spiritual emotions and personal disposition. By its very movements dance is able to bring out and make known a person's love for God and the art. The oldest examples of worship through dancing and clapping come to us from the Old Testament. . Most often, dancing is an expression of joy.

The Dance Ministry of New Genesis is diverse and covers various age groups. We have Spirit of Praise (S.O.P) the adult dance ministry, God's Anointed youth dance ministry, Jr. God's Anointed (Tiny Tots) dance ministry, and the Generation NOW! Step team. The Visual Arts Ministry, formerly known as the Drama Ministry, will have you laughing and crying at the same time. With their side splitting antics and passion for acting, "Oscar" is an understatement. This group of anointed men and woman have ministered at various ministries throughout the state of Maryland. They write, produce, and direct their own projects. The Visual Arts Ministry's plays and mini-plays cover diverse and real issues that plague or church and community. Sign/Mime Ministry

Mime is one of the oldest forms of theatre (the dramatic art of representing scenes from life through expressive bodily and facial movements). Sign language is a language of hand shapes, facial expressions, and movements used as a form of communication. These two forms of communication fused together with the Word of God and set to music birthed the Sign/Mime Ministry of New Genesis. This genre of visual art and dance has been a powerful tool of ministry for old and young alike. God's Word is transcended through the movement of hand and body is an awesome experience to behold. With its breath taking performances the Sign and Mime Ministry has performed across the state across and across the country.
